About the Independent Community Basketball (ICB) League

ICB VolunteersThe Independent Community Basketball League is a nonprofit volunteer based club.  The league provides all children in grades 1st through 8th from the towns of Penacook, Boscawen, Loudon, Webster, Salisbury & Andover a place to play basketball.  The league philosophy is to provide a fun and safe environment focused on the fundamentals of basketball.   Last year over 360 children represented 32 locally sponsored teams.

The league is governed by an 11 member board led by 2nd year President, Kevin Crutchfield.  Kevin has been coaching and refereeing in the league for many years taking over as president last year.  Last year and this year have been dedicated to improving the league and how it’s run.  We saw significant areas of improvement in the following areas:

  • We provided refs for all games for the 1st time. ( No running into the stands to grab parents at the last moment)
  • We revamped the league rules to make sure we were being competitive, but still keeping them age appropriate.
  • We had our 1st annual ‘Shoot A Thon” foul shooting competition.
  • We sent our teams outside of our own league to compete in both the Christmas & March invitational tournaments. Both boys and girls teams at different age levels won championships.
  • We joined the Merrimack Basketball League to give our 7th & 8Th graders a place to basketball who weren’t on the 12 person middle school teams.
  • We’ll continue to improve in the coming year. We already have the addition of this beautiful web site and we’re also planning our 1st March Invitational Tournament.  We can use your help for the tournament!   If you’re interested, please contact a board member.

The league relies on our local sponsors, fund raisers and volunteers to provide the gyms, refs, coaches, janitors, uniforms, awards etc.  Local sponsorship is a huge key for us.  We couldn’t do it every year if we didn’t have the individual team sponsors, but we also rely heavily on the Merrimack Valley School district to provide us the playing facilities.  Last year we used the Boscawen Elementary, Penacook Elementary and Merrimack Valley Middle School gymnasiums.  This year we’ll be more than happy to have the new gymnasium at Loudon Elementary to add practice and game schedules.  With so many teams, we’ve historically had very limited gym time.  The addition of one more school will make a huge difference in terms of weekly practice times.

If you’d like to get involved in the league, whether it be coaching, refereeing, running the clock, sponsoring, doing concessions, working the tournaments, please contact one of our board members.  You can also join us.   The ICB board meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:00PM in the back room at Alan’s of Boscawen.
